The first Chausies may have been bred, though perhaps accidentally, in ancient Egypt. Many people therefore like to give Chausies Egyptian names. We at Sarsenstone Cattery thought it might be nice to provide a list of potential names and their ancient Egyptian meanings.

“Amen’s in the hat.” (The great god Amen is pleased with our offering.)

Hehhehheh

One who worships Heh, the god of time.

 

Harharhar

One who worships Har, the god of the sun, aka Horus.

Userias

Greek form of Egyptian name User (which means “strong”).

Iah

Ancient Egyptian god of the moon.

 

Operah Wernofret

“Servant of the moon, great beauty.” An ancient Egyptian high priestess who made a fortune organizing popular entertainments.

NesitaOuza

“Belonging to the Eye (of Horus).” Or, possibly, it may mean, “Need my ouzo.”

Senet

Ancient Egyptian game in which one side vies against the other for victory by getting voters to believe their lies.

Ata Baui or Ata Bowi

“Prince Powerful.”

 

Sekhem or Sikhum

“Powerful One.”

 

Ata Bowi Sikhum

Popular name for ancient Egyptian guard dogs.

Neb

“Lord.”

Nebet

“Lady.”

Nub

“Gold.” Gold is also a symbol of the goddess Hathor.

Nesitanebetnub

“Belonging to the lady of gold, Hathor.” It was also a popular tongue-twister game for ancient Egyptian children.

Bapineuzumab

Ancient Egyptian god of memory, named after the new drug that combats Alzheimer’s.

Solanezumab

Ancient Egyptian goddess of thought, also named after a new Alzheimer’s drug.
